dc.descriptionAttachment style is a constant predictor of forgiveness, and it has been suggested that empathy mediates such effect, despite it has been tested in some previous research, they only have used measures of empathy as a trait, and in some others they do not measure secure attachment, and consider forgiveness and resentment as the extremes of the same continuum. Based on these disjunctions, for this research we aimed to test the mediation role of empathy towards the romantic partner on the attachment style effect on forgiveness and resentment. The participants were 264 Mexican adults involved in a romantic relationship. Simple mediation models showed that empathy mediates the effects of secure attachment style, forgiveness, and resentment, but only when the models included empathic wisdom and/or perspective taking as mediators. Such findings contribute to an accurate understanding of the relationship between the variables.en-US
dc.descriptionEl estilo de apego es un predictor consistente del perdón, y se ha sugerido que la empatía media tal efecto. No obstante, las investigaciones que lo han puesto a prueba en algunos casos solo usan medidas de empatía como rasgo, en otras no miden el apego seguro, y consideran al perdón y resentimiento como los extremos del mismo continuo. Basado en estas disyuntivas en las investigaciones, el objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar el papel mediador de la empatía hacia la pareja en el efecto del estilo de apego sobre el perdón y el resentimiento. Participaron 264 adultos mexicanos involucrados en una relación de pareja. Mediante modelos de mediación simple, se encontró que la empatía media los efectos del apego seguro en el perdón y el resentimiento, pero solo cuando los modelos incluyeron la sabiduría empática y/o la toma de perspectiva como mediadores. Tales hallazgos contribuyen a una comprensión precisa de la relación entre las variables.es-ES
